What to Expect on Your First Visit
What to expect on your first visit and onwards
It will be an interview where you can explain your concerns and understanding of what brings you to see me. At that time you will be interviewing me as well .
We are not establishing a treatment relationship at the first visit, but we will determine whether I can be of help and we are a good fit for each other.
Most people do not know why they are not feeling well. They know that they are not their usual selves and do not like it. We will speak about the subjects that you feel comfortable talking about at that time. Some issues may be a little bit uncomfortable and may take more time to work with them.
Not everyone needs to get on medications. When symptoms are too painful and disruptive, we can use medication as a kickstart. Psychiatric conditions such as depression and anxiety are expected to change. You will not need to be on medications forever if you get them. We work with you in making medication changes.
A psychiatrist is a medical doctor. We prescribe medications and offer psychotherapy under one roof. We are interested in your health as a whole. We will take a history of your past and current concerns, medical history, social support as well as your preferences. We will try to find what your strengths are so you can profit from them.
You are free to bring someone to the session.
There is a minimum amount of paperwork.
We will provide you with a receipt with all the relevant information, so you can submit to the appropriate agencies or insurance companies. You will need to find out if you have out of network benefits, if you have a deductible or a Co insurance With your permission, if needed, we will contact other doctors or therapists to coordinate your care.
You can expect that the treatment situation will be a collaboration with the purpose to treat problems in the long and short run. It should give you the tools to improve your well being and overall functioning.
We provide treatment as well as education to adults ages 18 to 70.
